Advent tea
Since 1953, the International Women's Club Kassel has been inviting people to its traditional Advent tea every December. Around 300 women accept this invitation every year and get in the mood for Christmas at the festively decorated tables with coffee, tea and home-baked cakes and tarts.
During this event, the American student who is currently being sponsored for an academic year at the University of Kassel via the VDAC exchange program will introduce himself/herself. During the afternoon, the respective project will also be presented, which will receive a donation from the proceeds of the Advent tea.
In the first years, the Advent tea took place at the Amerika-house, afterwards in different hotels in Kassel, until the club moved to the Kongress Palais-Stadthalle in 1999 for the club's 50th anniversary, where the Advent tea took place in the festive Blauer Saal until 2019. (see /-_Impressionen)
After a three-year break due to Corona, the IFC has decided to look for a new location for this Advent tea. In 2023, this traditional event took place for the first time in the South Wing of the Kassel Kulturbahnhof with a changed concept.
The aim of this charity event is to collect donations for the German-American student exchange, for the youth work of the Association of German-American Clubs and for an annually changing social project. In order to achieve this goal, a large raffle was held at the Advent tea in the past, which was supported by many Kassel companies. The new concept from 2023 stipulates the Advent tea guests will also take part in the raffle for some high-quality prizes with their admission ticket.
The decision which project should be supported is made by the club members. According to the statutes, it is important to promote social commitment for children and young people in Kassel and the surrounding area.
